Tunes on TV

Music from commercials and television shows

Archive for September, 2007

Courtney Love made a mint off of Cold Case this week. The show was set in 1994, and you know that means that there were no other bands that year other than Nirvana. All of the music was from In Utero (my favorite Nirvana cd). Don’t expect Cold Case music every week - it pains me to admit I watched it even this week.

Get In Utero on iTunes.

  • JCPenney Commercial - Music Box

Because their last commercial sounded so much like Regina Spektor, they’ve decided to do a commercial with her - and it’s a cool commercial.

Music Box (iTunes) - Regina Spektor
Regina Spektor - Attic Jam - Musicbox

Life inside the music box ain’t easy.
The mallets hit the gears are always turning
    and everyone inside the mechanism
    is yearning to get out.
    And sing another melody completely
So different from the one they’re always singing
I close my eyes and think that I have found me
but then I feel mortality surround me.
I want to sing another melody
so different from the one I always sing
But when I do the dishes
I run the water very very very hot
and then I fill the sink to the top with bubbles of soap
and then I send all the bottle caps I own a float
and its the greatest voyage in the history of plastic
and then I slip my hands in and start to make waves
and then I dip my tongue in and take a taste
it tastes like soap but it doesn’t really taste like soap
and then I lower in my hole mouth in and take a gulp
and start to feel mortality surround me
I close my eyes and think I’ve found me
but life inside the music box ain’t easy
the mallets hit the gears are always turning
    and everyone inside the mechanism
    is yearning
    to get out
    and sing another melody completely
    is yearning
    to get out
    is yearning
    to get out
    is yearning
    to get out

Journeyman Pilot - music and thoughts

Just finished watching the Journeyman pilot - and because of its time shifting theme, they use a lot of music to match the period. Well done, especially the end. I hate adding a serialized drama, but with the Heroes lead in, it might hang around a bit. Some songs from the show.

    Look After You (Lyrics)

If I don’t say this now I will surely break
As I’m leaving the one I want to take
Forgive the urgency but hurry up and wait
My heart has started to separate

    Oh, oh,
    Be my baby
    Ohhhhh
    Oh, oh
    Be my baby
    I’ll look after you

There now, steady love, so few come and don’t go
Will you won’t you, be the one I’ll always know
When I’m losing my control, the city spins around
You’re the only one who knows, you slow it down

    Oh, oh
    Be my baby
    Ohhhhhh
    Oh, oh
    Be my Baby
    I’ll look after you
    And I’ll look after you

Look After You Lyrics on http://www.lyricsmania.com
If ever there was a doubt
My love she leans into me
    This most assuredly counts
    She says most assuredly

    Oh, oh
    Be my baby
    I’ll look after you
    After You
    Oh, oh
    Be my baby
    Ohhhhh

It’s always have and never hold
You’ve begun to feel like home
What’s mine is yours to leave or take
What’s mine is yours to make your own

    Oh, oh
    Be my baby
    Ohhhhh
    Oh, oh
    Be my baby
    I’ll look after you

You are so beautiful to me (repeat)

Tonight’s episode of The 4400 ended with the great Pixies song Where Is My Mind.

Lyrics to Where is My Mind

    Way out in the water

  • This is an oldie but I love it anyway - the Geico Airport Commercial (video below). I love the song enough to use it as guide for the kind of vibe we wanted for our wedding cocktail hour music. The song is Remind Me by Royksopp

iPod Nano Music - 1234 by Feist

The new Apple commercial for the new video iPod Nano (the fat nano) features Feist’s song 1234 from the album The Reminder. She sounds a lot like Bjork.

    Feist - The Reminder - 1234

    Lyrics to 1234 by Feist
    One Two Three Four
Tell me that you love me more
    Sleepless, long nights
That was what my youth was for

Oh teenage hopes are lying at your door
    Left you with nothing
    But they want some more

    Oh, oh, oh
    You’re changing your heart
    Oh, oh, oh
    You know who you are

    Sweetheart, bitter heart
Now I can’t tell you apart
    Cozy and cold
Put the horse before the cart

    Those teenage hopes
Who have tears in their eyes
    Too scared to own up
    To one little lie

    Oh, oh, oh
    You’re changing your heart
    Oh, oh, oh
    You know who you are

One, two, three, four, five, six, nine, and ten
Money can’t buy you back the love that you had then
One, two, three, four, five, six, nine, and ten
Money can’t buy you back the love that you had then

    Oh, oh, oh
    You’re changing your heart
    Oh, oh, oh
    You know who you are
    Oh, oh, oh
    You’re changing your heart
    Oh, oh, oh
    You know who you are

The Jeep commercial currently running with a collage of different historical images with Jeeps in the background is using the song Sunshine (Go Away Today) by Jonathan Edwards.

Jonathan Edwards - Rhino Hi-Five: Jonathan Edwards - EP - Sunshine (Go Away Today) [Single Version]

Wilco - Sky Blue Sky (Amazon)I missed this one in my earlier post about Wilco’s music being used for Volkswagen. The song is called Sky Blue Sky from the album of the same name.
