Brendan Benson’s song “What I’m Looking For” is being used in the current iPod Touch commercial (the one with the iPods on a wooden table). Some of you might know Benson from the Raconteurs - he had two great albums before that. Check them out.

Brendan Benson - The Alternative to Love - What I'm Looking For

“What I’m Looking For” Lyrics - iTunes
Well I don’t know what I’m looking for
But I know that I just wanna look some more
And I won’t be satisfied
‘Till there’s nothing left that I haven’t tried
For some people it’s an easy choice
But for me there’s a devil and an angel’s voice
Well I don’t know what I am looking for
But I know that I just wanna look some more

Well I don’t know what I’m living for
But I know that I just wanna live some more
And you hear it from strangers
And you hear it from friends
That love never dies, love never ends
Now I don’t wanna argue, no I don’t wanna fight
‘Cause you’re always wrong and I’m always right
Well I don’t know what I am living for
But I know that I just wanna live some more

I used to be involved, and I felt like a king
Now I’ve lost it all and I don’t feel a thing
I may never grow old, I may never give in
And I’ll blame this world that I live in
I visit hell on a daily basis
I see the sadness in all your faces
I’ve got friends who have married
And their lives seem complete
Here I am still stumbling down a darkened street

And I act like a child and I’m insecure
And I’m filled with doubt and I’m immature
Sometimes it creeps up on me and before I know it
I’m lost at sea
But no matter how far I row
I always find my way back home
But I don’t know what I’ve been waiting for
But I know that I don’t wanna wait anymore

Looking for…
What I’m looking for…
Looking for…
What I’m looking for…
Looking for…
What I’m looking for…
Looking for…
What I’m looking for…
Looking for…
What I’m looking for.

Love this song. Played tonight on the Oscar’s telecast. (Lots of commercial music tonight). The version is by Chris Montez - Let’s Dance (iTunes)

Chris Montez - The Hits - Let's Dance

Let’s Dance Lyrics (iTunes)

(One, two)
(One, two, three, four)

Hey baby won’t you take a chance?
Say that you’ll let me have this dance

Well let’s dance, well let’s dance
We’ll do the twist, the stomp, the mashed potato too,
Any old dance that you wanna do
But let’s dance, well let’s dance

Hey baby, yeah, you thrill me so
Hold me tight, don’t you let me go

But let’s dance, well let’s dance
We’ll do the twist, the stomp, the mashed potato too
Any old dance that you wanna do
But let’s dance, well let’s dance

SPOKEN: OK, wail now.

Oh, yeah

Hey, baby, if you’re all alone
Maybe you’ll let me walk you home

But let’s dance, well let’s dance
We’ll do the twist, the stomp, the mashed potato too,
Any old dance that you wanna do
But let’s dance, well let’s dance

Hey, baby, things are swingin’ right
Yes, I know that this is the night

Well let’s dance, well let’s dance
We’ll do the twist, the stomp, the mashed potato too
Any old dance that you wanna do
But let’s dance, well let’s dance

FADE
But let’s dance
But let’s dance
But let’s dance

The GM Arcadia commercial is using a remake of Modern English’s I Melt With You (iTunes). The artist is Nouvelle Vague - I Melt With You (iTunes)

Nouvelle Vague - Nouvelle Vague - I Melt With You

Very cool Diet Coke Commercial using Aberfedly - Summer’s Gone

Aberfeldy - Young Forever - Summer's Gone

One two, one two three
Well, we get along
Yeah we really do
And there’s nothing wrong
With what I feel for you
I could go with you, you, you
If you want me to
I could hang around
Till the leaves are brown
And the summer’s gone

What a silly thing
For me to say to you
As the spring begins
To begin with you
And I know that it’s hard, hard, hard
[?]
When the leaves are brown
And they’re falling down
And the summer’s gone

And I can’t wait anymore for you
Spent the weekend, you’ve given me nothing
I can’t wait anymore for you
The feeling’s strong, but the summer’s gone

But I won’t give up
And I won’t give in
And I know it’s tough
But I ain’t a win
And I couldn’t get away from you
Even if I wanted to
So I hang around
Till the leaves are brown
And the summer’s gone

And I can’t wait anymore for you
Spent the weekend, you’ve given me nothing
I can’t wait anymore for you
The feeling’s strong, but the summer’s gone

And I can’t wait anymore for you
Spent the weekend, you’ve given me nothing
I can’t wait anymore for you
The feeling’s strong, but the summer’s gone

And I can’t wait anymore for you
I can’t wait anymore for you
I can’t wait anymore for you
The feeling’s strong, but the summer’s gone

I can’t wait anymore for you
I can’t wait anymore for you
I can’t wait anymore for you
The feeling’s strong, but the summer’s gone

What I’ve got to do
What I’ve got to see
It was only you, and it was only me
And I know that it’s hard, hard, hard
And I Know that it’s hard
And the leaves are brown
And they’re falling down
And the summer’s gone

And I can’t wait anymore for you
Spent the weekend, you’ve given me nothing
I can’t wait anymore for you
The feeling’s strong, but the summer’s gone

And I can’t wait anymore for you
Spent the weekend, you’ve given me nothing
I can’t wait anymore for you
The feeling’s strong, but the summer’s gone

Summer’s Gone Lyrics (iTunes)

The new JC Penney commercial for their American Living line is using the Robert Plant and Allison Krauss version of “Killing the Blues” from their cd Raising Sand.

Robert Plant & Alison Krauss - Raising Sand - Killing the Blues

Killing the Blues Lyrics (iTunes)

Robert Plant & Alison Krauss - Raising Sand - Killing the Blues

Leaves were falling ..Just like embers
In colors red and gold they set us on fire
Burning just like a moonbeam ..in our eyes

Chorus:
Somebody said they saw me
Swinging the world by the tail
Bouncing over a white cloud.
Killing the Blues

I am guilty of something
I hope you never do because there is nothing
Sadder than losing .. yourself in love

Repeat Chorus:

Repeat Chorus:

Now, you ask me Just to leave you
To go out on my own and get what I need to
You want me to find ..what I’ve already had

The Rosebuds on A92 Radio

Wendy asked me to track down a song for her that’s on the Abecrombie Kids Radio A92 Radio. The song is called “Get Up Get Down” and it’s by the Rosebuds. Weird choice for them - I’ve been a fan for awhile - they’re usually a singer/songwriter duo and this is sort of Rick Astley. Anyway - the song can be found on their Myspace page:

Update: Song is available on iTunes - click the image or click here

    February Air Myspace Page

    Lights - February Air (iTunes)

    If you don’t believe me
If you don’t like my plans
    You mustn’t tell me
How I know your face like the back of my hands

    We walk the city
    I talk to you understand
    So won’t you tell me
How I know this place like the back of my hand

    My arms get cold
    In February air
    Please don’t lose hold
    Of me out there

And I know you’re near me
    I know you understand
    Say that you’re with me
So you know my face like the back of your hand

    My arms get cold
    In February air
    Please don’t lose hold
    Of me out there
    (repeat x2)

    Yeah yeah yeah yeahhhh

    Out there

    Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeahhhh

    Hey yeahh
    Yeahh yeah yeah yeah
    Hey yeah
    Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeahhh

    My arms get cold
    In February air
    Please don’t lose hold
    Of me out there
    (repeat x2)

    There
    There

    February air
    Air
And I know this place like the back of my hand

I’ve always loved the REM version of Superman (itself a cover) but Toyota’s Sequoia commercial is using the Plural version on their new commercial. “Superman” (iTunes)

    “Superman” (iTunes) Lyrics

    Plural - I Feel Beautiful - Superman

    I am, I am, I am superman
    And I know what’s happening.
    I am, I am, I am superman
    And I can do anything.

You don’t really love that guy you make it with now do you?
I know you don’t love that guy ’cause I can see right through you.

    I am, I am, I am superman
    And I know what’s happening.
    I am, I am, I am superman
    And I can do anything.

If you go a million miles away I’ll track you down girl.
Trust me when I say I know the pathway to your heart.

If you go a million miles away I’ll track you down girl.
Trust me when I say I know the pathway to your heart.

    I am, I am, I am superman
    And I know what’s happening.
    I am, I am, I am superman
    And I can do anything.

    I am, I am, I am superman
    And I know what’s happening.
    I am, I am, I am superman
    And I can do anything.

A new Kleenex commercial is using the Starrfadu song “Let it Out” (iTunes)

    “Let it Out” (iTunes) Lyrics

Starrfadu - A Narrow Road to Silence - Let It Out

Do you want to lay your head on my shoulder?
I don’t mind if you cry.
Sometimes we all just need to let it out.
Just let your tears run down my arm,
so I can keep them in a blue jar.
We’ll drink them later, so just let it out.
Let’s take a walk just to clear our heads.
I don’t mind that you’re holding my hand.
You say you love me, so just let it out.
Your smile is a pleasant change from before,
when you thought that you couldn’t take anymore.
Sometimes we all just need to let it out

One of the Toyota Sequoia commercials - the one where the family goes camping - uses the Pete Droge song “Going Whichever Way the Wind Blows”(iTunes).

I need to find out who does the cover of REM’s “Superman” in another Sequoia commercial.

Pete Droge - Under the Waves - Going Whichever Way the Wind Blows

“Going Whichever Way the Wind Blows”(iTunes) Lyrics

Going whichever way the wind blows,
you were caught in your world,
    I was lost in mine.

Going whichever way the wind blows,
    staring through the windshield,
    seeing the other side.
let it go, it will get easier,
let it go, just enjoy the ride.

Going whichever way the wind blows,
    Spacing on the road map,
    useless dots and lines.

Going whichever way the wind blows,
    tearing out the pages,
    just to watch them fly,
let it go, it will get easier,
let it go, just enjoy the ride.

let it go, it will get easier,
let it go, just enjoy the ride.

Going whichever way the wind blows,
Going whichever way the wind blows,
stare into the rearview, leave it all behind

Check it out - Taco Bell is using Joe Jackson’s song One More Time (iTunes) for their Gordita commercial.

    One More Time (iTunes) Lyrics

Joe Jackson - Look Sharp! - One More Time

Tell me one more time as I hold your hand, that you don’t love me
Tell me one more time as teardrops start to fall
Shout it to me and I’ll shout it to the skies above me
That there was nothing after all

Baby, baby, tell me that you never wanted my loving
Baby, baby, tell me that you never, tell me, tell me,
One more time, one more time, say you’re leaving, say goodbye
One more time, one more time, say you’re leaving, say goodbye

Tell me one more time that we never had a thing in common
Tell me one more time as you turn and face the wall
Tell me I should know you were never my kind of woman
Tell me we were fools to fall

Baby, baby, tell me that you never wanted my loving
Baby, baby, tell me that you never, tell me, tell me,
One more time, one more time, say you’re leaving, say goodbye
One more time, one more time, say you’re leaving, say goodbye

Tell me one more time your tears are only sad confusion
Tell me it’s just been so long and that is all
Tell me one more time that love was only my illusion
You never answered to my call

Baby, baby, tell me that you never wanted my loving
Baby, baby, tell me that you never, tell me, tell me,
One more time, one more time, say you’re leaving, say goodbye
One more time, one more time, say you’re leaving, say goodbye

    AT&T Valentine’s Day Commercial

The AT&T Valentine’s Day Commercial is using Ryan Adams’ song Gonna Make You Love Me (iTunes). Great, great song from a great, great CD Gold. Do yourself a favor and just get the whole thing.

Gonna Make You Love Me lyrics
Ryan Adams - Gold - Gonna Make You Love Me

Riot on the streets, the touch beneath the sheets
Its only gonna make me love you more
The cops they got the guns, the night destroys the sun
Its only gonna make me love you more

This old world, well, it was mine to take
Faith can keep you warm, but Ill teach you how to shake
And Ill come to you like a little girl
Its only gonna make me love you more

Moonlight on the beach, sweet amphetamines
Its only gonna make you love me more
Bottles and the cans, the idiots go dance
Its only gonna make me love you more

This old world, well, it was mine to take
Faith can keep you warm, but Ill teach you how to shake
And Ill come to you like a little girl
Its only gonna make me love you more

    They say love is hell,
But Ive only been laughin ever since I fell
Its only gonna make me love you more
The lord will have his way but Im just a call away
Its only gonna make you love me more

This old world, well, it was mine to take
Faith can keep you warm, but Ill teach you how to shake
And Ill come to you like a little girl
Its only gonna make me love you more

Kings of Leon is always good for a car commercial. Take Volkswagen’s use of Molly Chambers (iTunes).

The current Ford Focus commercial is using the Kings of Leon song Red Morning Light (iTunes) for the current campaign.

Kings of Leon - Youth & Young Manhood - Red Morning Light

    Red Morning Light Lyrics (iTunes)
You know you could’ve been a wonder
Takin’ your circus to the sky
You couldn’t take it on the tight rope
No you had to take it on the side
    You always like it undercover
Tucked in between your dirty sheets
But no one’s even done nuttin’ to ya
In between the hollers and the screams

And I said nah nah hey hey
Another dirty bird ain’t givin’ out a taste
In the black of the night till the red morning light

You got your cozy little corner
All night you’re jammin’ on your feet
Hangin’ out just like a street sign
And put a twenty dollar trick
    I hear you’re blowin’ like a feather
And then they rub it in your face
Oh once they’ve had all their fun hun
You’re at the bottom of the cage

And I said nah nah hey hey
Another dirty bird ain’t giving out a taste
In the black of the night till the red morning light
And I said nah nah hey hey you’re givin’ all your cinnamon away
    That’s not right

    [Solo]

Hey hey another dirty bird ain’t givin’ out a taste
Uh hey keep on givin’ away and givin’ it away (givin’ it away)
Hey hey you’re givin’ all your cinnamon away
Hey hey you’re givin’ all your cinnamon away

Can’t believe I’ve missed this one. Thanks to Joe for the headsup.

The new Zune commercial is now sporting the Shins song Sleeping Lessons (iTunes) from their awesome cd Wincing The Night Away (iTunes).

    Sleeping Lessons (iTunes) Lyrics
The Shins - Wincing the Night Away - Sleeping Lessons

    Go without,
    ‘Til the need seeps in,
    You’re low anymore,
Collect your novel petals for the stem,

    And glow,
    Glow,
    Melt and flow,
    Eviscerate your fragile frame,
And spill it out in the ragged floor,
A thousand different versions of yourself,

And if the old guard still offend,
They got nothing left on which you depend,
    So enlist every ounce,
    Of your bright blood,
    And off with their heads,

    Jump from a book,
You’re not obliged to swallow anything you despise,
See, those unrepenting buzzards want your life,
    And they got no right,
As sure as you have eyes,
    They got no right,

Just put yourself in my new shoes,
And see that I do what I do,
Because the old guard still offend,
We got nothing left on which we depend,
    So we waste every ounce,
    Of your bright blood,
    And off with their heads,

    Jump from a book,
    And you’re not obliged,
To swallow anything that you despise
