The new T-Mobile Mytouch Google phone commercial featuring Whoopi Goldberg, Phil Jackson, and Jesse James is pretty cool. Features a Cat Stevens song in it, If You Want To Sing Out, Sing Out.
Song: If You Want To Sing Out, Sing Out – (iTunes) | (Amazon MP3)
Artist: Cat Stevens
If You Want To Sing Out, Sing Out lyrics
Well, if you want to sing out, sing out
And if you want to be free, be free
‘Cause there’s a million things to be
You know that there are
And if you want to live high, live high
And if you want to live low, live low
‘Cause there’s a million ways to go
You know that there are
Chorus:
You can do what you want
The opportunity’s on
And if you find a new way
You can do it today
You can make it all true
And you can make it undo
you see ah ah ah
its easy ah ah ah
You only need to know
Well if you want to say yes, say yes
And if you want to say no, say no
‘Cause there’s a million ways to go
You know that there are
And if you want to be me, be me
And if you want to be you, be you
‘Cause there’s a million things to do
You know that there are
Chorus
Well, if you want to sing out, sing out
And if you want to be free, be free
‘Cause there’s a million things to be
You know that there are
You know that there are
You know that there are
You know that there are
You know that there are

Why would an American company promoting a new product choose the music of someone who openly and publicly denounced their American citizenship and capitalism. With rumors of association with terrorist organizations, I would shy away from using his music in an ad for fear of losing business.
Actually – T-mobile is a German company, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom.
And Cat Stevens is the furthest a terrorist can be, He believes in peace. Unlike some people in America.
Actually, he was born and raised in London, England.
Hey Tapestry…shut the fark up about crap you know nothing about. Go back to sucking off Sean Hannity and Glen Beck’s small wangs. People like you make me freakin sick that I’m an American
Tapestry, for the record Cat Stevens was NEVER an American, he is a British citizen, and he denounces terrorism, and has quite outspoken about that fact. And while he loves his religion, he is quick to point out that it is extremists of his religion who are wreaking havoc. Please get the facts straight before posting. Cat Stevens still promotes peace, just as he did 3 decades ago.
The song is great, and I am really glad that T-Mobile chose to use it. I love the diversity of “celebs” used in the commercial.
The song is irritating and the commercial is played ad nauseum.
This is a wonderful piece of music. I’m so sorry you were born tone-deaf, “Dylan”.
@tapestry Dude you’re a moron. Are you really going to naiively suggest that because a man is Muslim he’s a terrorist? How about the dozens, or hundreds, of terrorist acts perpetrated by Baptists? Or Catholics? Or freaking Seventh Day Adventists? You think that bombing a hospital because an abortion was ever performed there is morally acceptable? Acts like those were perpetrated BY CHRISTIAN AMERICANS, AGAINST AMERICANS. Every human being, regardless of race or gender or religion is capable of evil acts, and you rank yourself among the worst to attempt to perpetuate such ignorant and uneducated ideas. If you’re searching for someone to persecute, look to yourself first.
WOW… just…WOW 1st of all. I like the song. Who sings it does not matter to me, nor does his religion. I do not care where he was born or where he lives now. I do not care what he does or does not believe in. I like the music for the music not for who brings the music to my ears. I'm sure Tmobile doesn't really give a rats ass about all that stuff either. It's a good song and a nice commercial. That's all that matters, it grabs peoples attention. For the idiot blubbering about the guys religion, you should remember that you can find good and evil wherever you look. You should not single out one religion as evil or bad. There are great people and evil people in most religions. The same goes for all races.
Cat Stevens isn't a terrorist and I've never heard of him denouncing America; That said, he offered a price for the assassination of Salmon Rushdie for writing "Satanic Versus". That makes the "peaceful" Cat a bit of a hypocrite..
I agree with Jazzygirl though….who cares! It's a good song.
Xenoph, when you respond to a posting, try using your mind instead of writing back "Go back to sucking off Sean Hannity and Glen Beck's small wangs. People like you make me freakin sick that I'm an American". You are welcome to leave America.
I think the real question is why would a company promoting a new product choose such a terrible fucking song?
That song is about 100x better than most of what is coming out today.
Tapestry-what does his patriotism have to do with a happy song?
First thing's first…it's a German company. Next thing, as the other commenter that replied said…it's just a happy song.

Wow, your such a stupid Asshole
By the way, Cat Stevens was British and not American.

Good for you! I'm with you.
no, Cat Stevens did not offer a price for the assassination of Salmon Rushdie. Another person who needs to get their facts straight.

Ok Iwas wrong He made most money in america he only performed here..My Bad I was Wrong but here are th Fact Stevens converted to Islam at the height of his fame in December, 1977,[2] and adopted his Muslim name, Yusuf Islam, the following year. In 1979, he auctioned all his guitars away for charity[3] and left his music career to devote himself to educational and philanthropic causes in the Muslim community. He has been given several awards for his work in promoting peace in the world, including 2003's World Award, the 2004 Man for Peace Award and the 2007 Mediterranean Prize for Peace. In 2006, he returned to pop music, with his first album of new pop songs in 28 years, entitled An Other Cup. He now goes by the single name Yusuf.[4]
He currently lives with his wife and children in London

Worst F***ing commercial I've seen in a while. They promote cutting edge technology with three stale, old fogies that are past their prime. I mean come on…WHOOPI? Doesn't anyone remember Sister Act??
And what is it these old coots are doing with the phone? Doesn't look like anything more than looking at pictures. I was doing that on my phone 6 years ago.
And the song is cool, but it puts me to sleep!
Seriously, worst idea for a cell phone commercial ever.
Not to be mean – but is it so hard to use spellcheck and use proper grammar and punctuation?
I'm not even a grammar freak, but as soon as I see all of these mistakes in one post – I ignore.
Cat Stevens does indeed still make music, only now it's under the name Yusuf Islam. Not everyone who oractices Islam is a terrorist. If that was the case then Muhammad Ali would be a terrorist. True Islam preaches peace. Get a clue.
Why is GXXXXX a "stupid asshole?" Is it because he exercises his right of free speech.
I agree to some extent. More people have been killed in the name of religion in the history of mankind than for any other reason. I can't believe it's 2009 and people still believe religious mythology.
For making such a juvenile comment you are as much an ignorant ass as Tapestry.
When I heard the commercial it was the voice that got me…it sounded just like Cat Stevens…I checked it out…& sure enough it is…there is no dispute over his talent as a singer
Sherri
Great point!!! Anti-Americans should NOT be getting American money. Some moron said he's a pacifist. He loudly called for the death of Salman Rushdie!! He has willing ties to fundamentalists who support Al Qaeda. get your heads out of the sand!!! T-Mobile…Drop him or drop me!!!! Peace.
I think the song is sang by Jack Black
It sounds exactly like him.
The singer sounds exactly like Jack Black.
Done and done
THANK you justin.
thank u
isnt that what america is suppose to b, FREEDOM!!!!!!!
The music is bland and uninteresting and I get negative vibes listening to Cat Stevens. His shifting, publicly expressed opinions on American culture over the years are a turn off. Why this company thinks it's a good idea to saturate America's airwaves with Cat whatever-his-legal-name-is Stevens' music defies logic. Lame.
i love this phone.. its awsome!!!
im so glad i baught it.. WAYYY better then a iPhone
this tmobile song is the worst f n song i have ever heard it makes me just want to slice my wrists…god who stupid ass actually would put garbage like that to promote a phone f n f n sh t
he is a fucking terrorist. this phone is for people who cant afford and iphone…just like every other phone out there.
This was a great song in Harold & Maude. That's the era I judge this music. What Cat Stevens did later can't change the history of wonderful music — especially for harp players; most of Cat Steven's music could be played with a "C" harp. BTW: I own/love a G-1.
Well said Jenn!
