Music from commercials and television shows

JCPenney should just run a radio station - of course everyone would sound like Regina Spektor. Their Mother’s Day Commercial is using a really cool song from Lavender Diamond, a band out of Los Angeles. The song is called “Open Your Heart” (iTunes). I may try the whole album.

Lavender Diamond - Imagine Our Love - Open Your Heart

“Open Your Heart” (iTunes) Lyrics
Well streets are long
When you have to go
Where are you running to?
Where are you running to?

Well streets are long
When you have to go
Where are you running to?
Where are you running to?

o, o, o, o, o (x4)
Open your heart
Tell apart
Open your heart
Tell apart
o, o, o, o, o (X4)

Well Streets are long
When you have to go
Where are you running to?
Where are you running to?

well Streets are long
When you have to go
Where are you running to?
Where are you running to?

Open your heart
Tell apart
Open your heart
Tell apart

o, o, o, o, o (X4)

well Streets are long
When you have to go
Where are you running to?

well Streets are long
When you have to go
Where are you running to?

Open your heart
Tell apart
Open your heart
Tell apart

Another great commercial by JCPenney. Looks like Saatchi and Saatchi does their campaigns - they do a good job. The music in the commercial is by The Dragonettes called “Get Lucky”. As always, the lyrics are below along with the commercial itself.

(Looking for it on iTunes - can’t find it - will add a link to purchase when I find it)

“Get Lucky” Lyrics
Sometimes the sun shines on us
Sometimes the rain goes and a rainbow’s all that’s left
We got lucky, hey, didn’t we, baby?

‘Cause I like your head on my shoulder
I like the way you smile, the way you smile oh oh
We both think the weather’s getting better
So let’s get lucky, let’s go all the way

I found you seaside in the fog
I hadn’t tried a lot of looking for anything at all
The cloud cover of fog
All the hearts I’m gonna’ love in the morning

And I like my head on your shoulder
I like the way you smile, the way you smile oh oh
And we both think the weather’s getting better
So let’s get lucky, let’s go all the way

All the way, get lucky
The weatherman says it’s wet and cloudy
Stay indoors, sit out the storm
It looks like this might be a quickie

Hey handsome, we got it good
Hey mister, we gone and done it
Just because we could
Because it’s cloudy out there
Staying in like we should

‘Cause I like your head on my shoulder
Me I like the way you smile, the way you smile oh oh
And we both know the weather will get better
So let’s get lucky, let’s go all the way
Let’s get lucky, come on, go all the way

Love this song. Played tonight on the Oscar’s telecast. (Lots of commercial music tonight). The version is by Chris Montez - Let’s Dance (iTunes)

Chris Montez - The Hits - Let's Dance

Let’s Dance Lyrics (iTunes)

(One, two)
(One, two, three, four)

Hey baby won’t you take a chance?
Say that you’ll let me have this dance

Well let’s dance, well let’s dance
We’ll do the twist, the stomp, the mashed potato too,
Any old dance that you wanna do
But let’s dance, well let’s dance

Hey baby, yeah, you thrill me so
Hold me tight, don’t you let me go

But let’s dance, well let’s dance
We’ll do the twist, the stomp, the mashed potato too
Any old dance that you wanna do
But let’s dance, well let’s dance

SPOKEN: OK, wail now.

Oh, yeah

Hey, baby, if you’re all alone
Maybe you’ll let me walk you home

But let’s dance, well let’s dance
We’ll do the twist, the stomp, the mashed potato too,
Any old dance that you wanna do
But let’s dance, well let’s dance

Hey, baby, things are swingin’ right
Yes, I know that this is the night

Well let’s dance, well let’s dance
We’ll do the twist, the stomp, the mashed potato too
Any old dance that you wanna do
But let’s dance, well let’s dance

FADE
But let’s dance
But let’s dance
But let’s dance

The new JC Penney commercial for their American Living line is using the Robert Plant and Allison Krauss version of “Killing the Blues” from their cd Raising Sand.

Robert Plant & Alison Krauss - Raising Sand - Killing the Blues

Killing the Blues Lyrics (iTunes)

Robert Plant & Alison Krauss - Raising Sand - Killing the Blues

Leaves were falling ..Just like embers
In colors red and gold they set us on fire
Burning just like a moonbeam ..in our eyes

Chorus:
Somebody said they saw me
Swinging the world by the tail
Bouncing over a white cloud.
Killing the Blues

I am guilty of something
I hope you never do because there is nothing
Sadder than losing .. yourself in love

Repeat Chorus:

Repeat Chorus:

Now, you ask me Just to leave you
To go out on my own and get what I need to
You want me to find ..what I’ve already had

The holiday commercials that JCPenney is running use a John Lennon song called Real Love (iTunes) and a Weepies song called All that I Want (iTunes).

The John Lennon Commercial is below. From the JCPenney site:

Real Love is an impromptu, home-recorded track by John Lennon. This is only the second time Yoko Ono has allowed one of his tracks to be licensed. The first time was in 1992.

John Lennon - Real Love (iTunes).

John Lennon - Wonsaponatime - Real Love (Short Version)

Weepies - All that I Want (iTunes) I highly recommend this cd. It’s a lot of cool indie, folk Christmas music.

JCPenney Commercial - Music Box

Because their last commercial sounded so much like Regina Spektor, they’ve decided to do a commercial with her - and it’s a cool commercial.

Music Box (iTunes) - Regina Spektor
Regina Spektor - Attic Jam - Musicbox

Life inside the music box ain’t easy.
The mallets hit the gears are always turning
and everyone inside the mechanism
is yearning to get out.
And sing another melody completely
So different from the one they’re always singing
I close my eyes and think that I have found me
but then I feel mortality surround me.
I want to sing another melody
so different from the one I always sing
But when I do the dishes
I run the water very very very hot
and then I fill the sink to the top with bubbles of soap
and then I send all the bottle caps I own a float
and its the greatest voyage in the history of plastic
and then I slip my hands in and start to make waves
and then I dip my tongue in and take a taste
it tastes like soap but it doesn’t really taste like soap
and then I lower in my hole mouth in and take a gulp
and start to feel mortality surround me
I close my eyes and think I’ve found me
but life inside the music box ain’t easy
the mallets hit the gears are always turning
and everyone inside the mechanism
is yearning
to get out
and sing another melody completely
is yearning
to get out
is yearning
to get out
is yearning
to get out

JCPenney Commercial Music

For those of you wondering, the new commercial from JCPenney includes a song that was made specifically for the commercial. The singer’s name is Melanie Horsnell and she sounds a lot like Regina Spektor. The song is called “How Can it Be” and is available on iTunes. Forever Thursday - How Can It Be - Single
